The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) Pinnacle Award, which recognizes agencies that demonstrate the highest level of excellence in correctional healthcare. The NCCHC is an independent, non-profit organization with the goal of improving the standard of care in correctional healthcare across the United States. The Pinnacle Award was presented earlier this month at the National Conference on Correctional Health Care in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Clackamas County Jail is the first jail in Oregon and one of only six correctional facilities in the nation to earn the Pinnacle Award. The Pinnacle Award represents the highest level of recognition in correctional healthcare. It is given to facilities that achieve accreditation in multiple service areas and demonstrate compliance with nationally recognized standards for governance, patient care, staffing, and specialized programs.
This achievement follows the Jail’s successful completion of three NCCHC accreditations: Health Services, the Opioid Treatment Program, and Mental Health Services. Earning all three required a comprehensive review of operations, policies, staffing practices, and quality improvement systems. Each accreditation requires renewal every three years.
This accomplishment reflects the combined efforts of the Sheriff’s Office staff and NaphCare, the Jail’s medical provider since 2018, and a shared commitment to delivering care that meets both nationally recognized standards and best practices.
