NaphCare Awarded Five Year Contract to Provide Comprehensive Medical Services at US Penitentiary in Marion, Illinois

BIRMINGHAM, AL — NaphCare, Inc., is an independent partner to correctional facilities nationwide for innovative healthcare management and technology solutions and was recently awarded a five year contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to provide comprehensive medical services to the inmates of the US Penitentiary in Marion, Illinois (USP Marion).

USP Marion is a medium security prison with an adjacent minimum security satellite camp for approximately 1,321 male inmates located in Marion, a rural area in southern Illinois. Beginning July 1st, NaphCare will assume full responsibility for the management of all off-site care and will offer the prison a full array of services that include network development and contracting, medical scheduling, and a web-based medical records system to better manage inmate healthcare and costs.

When an inmate’s health requires a doctor or hospital visit outside of the prison, NaphCare works closely with the on-site medical staff and local providers to streamline the delivery of care, using proven cost-saving strategies common in the private sector.  NaphCare negotiates discounted rates at area hospitals, ensures that only approved and medically necessary care is administered, and reviews every medical claim for accurate billing and coding.

“NaphCare is excited about expanding our presence in Illinois, as we already provide services for the federal prison in Greenville as well as the state Department of Corrections. We will work side-by-side with USP Marion to improve care for each and every inmate patient,” said Yolanda Walker, NaphCare’s Vice President of Federal Operations.  “Our goal is to exceed the expectations of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and USP Marion.”
