NaphCare Announces Recipients of the 2016 NaphCare Foundation Tommy Ward Memorial Scholarships
BIRMINGHAM, AL – NaphCare, Inc., an independent partner to correctional facilities nationwide for innovative healthcare management and technology solutions, is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2016 NaphCare Foundation Tommy Ward Memorial Scholarships. College scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each have been awarded to eight students from Vestavia Hills High School (VHHS) in Vestavia Hills, AL.
In its fourth year, this scholarship fund was inspired by Tommy Ward, a VHHS coach who was killed in a tragic accident over 20 years ago. NaphCare is proud to join VHHS in honoring Coach Ward’s legacy by selecting deserving students to receive scholarships each year.
For 2016, the NaphCare Foundation is proud to award these scholarships to Annie Brasfield, Channing Freeman, Clara Hotten, Edmund Wyatt Cantrell, Grace Redden, Katie Corona, Margaret Anne Farris, and William Snell.
NaphCare not only provides scholarships to graduating students at VHHS, but also to seniors at Valley High School in Valley, Alabama, and Bath and Menifee County Schools in Kentucky. NaphCare’s commitment includes providing support and financial resources to commendable high school students in their pursuit for higher education. The NaphCare Foundation Selection Committee works closely with area high school leaders through an applications and interview process to identify deserving and hardworking students whose academic and social achievements may otherwise go unnoticed, given that scholarship selection processes are normally based on athletic performance or standardized test scores. Students are evaluated according to accomplishments that are not measured by standardized testing.
As a healthcare provider, NaphCare believes in its responsibility to positively impact our community, both locally and in our partnership locations. Since 2012, the NaphCare Foundation has awarded over $500,000 worth of scholarships to outstanding youths entering college.
